This should have been a push but it wasn't. Venky came into the auction at the three level with a four-card suit and was lucky to find five with his partner. He has an excellent understanding of systems and bidding methods, and was quick to spot that we had not tried Notrumps because of a weakness in Hearts. His 3♥ was daring, but it produced a six-IMP swing for FORMIDABLES when Vivek chose to underlead his Spade Ace.
