This was a rather interesting deal. In the Open Room, NS interfered slowly to the level of 3♥. EW should have opted for a penalty, however, they chose to bid on. South led the ♥Ace and shifted. The records do not mention the shift. East went down in due course. In the Close Room, Vivek overcalled 3♦ showing 5 Diamond and 5 cards in some Major. Again, EW could have penalised this, but West chose to bid 3Nt. Vivek led the ♥Ace and continue with KQ and one more Heart. Declarer had only eight tricks after that.
Kiran and Sathya were not happy about this result. Their grievance was that we did not give a complete description of our defense against 1Nt opening at the beginning of the round. Our convention card had the bid clearly mentioned, and it was alerted and explained properly on both sides of the screen. The director was satisfied with that but our opponents wanted to appeal against the decision. In the end, they either decided against it, or were unable to file the appeal in time - I do not know the exact sequence of events.
