This was a flat deal, but notice the differences in methods. Vivek transferred and showed his Diamond stiff. Kiran used a standard method - the Stayman followed by Smolen - the 3 bid to show 5 Spades and 4 Hearts. The final contract was the same but you can easily see that if West held AKJx of Diamonds and Qxxx of Clubs, same HCP, same distribution, we would have finished in 3Nt while the standard methods would have led to 4♠ regardless.
