Venky-Prabhakaran missed a good slam here. There were subtle differences in the auction. For one, Master opened 1 whereas Prabhakaran chose 1♣. With a stiff Club and a minimum partner, Venky was not excited about a slam. on West's 3 bid, Prabhakaran chose a raise while Master preferred a 3Nt bid. Master's choice left space for a cue bid below game and Debashish promptly exploited the opportunity. Venky had a tougher choice after 4. We have already seen why he did not feel too strongly about slam prospects.
